World Heart Day
Madrid, September 29, 2017.
Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the leading cause of death worldwide. In Spain, according to the latest data from the National Institute of Statistics, during 2015 a total of 422,568 people died, 6.8% more than in the previous year. For this reason, on World Heart Day, INNOLIVA wants to remember the importance of betting on a healthy diet and exercising regularly.
According to the World Health Organization, the consumption of tobacco, an unhealthy diet and physical inactivity increase the risk of myocardial infarctions and strokes. It has been demonstrated that the cessation of tobacco consumption, the reduction of dietary salt, the consumption of fruits and vegetables, regular physical activity and the avoidance of harmful alcohol consumption reduce the risk of suffering CVD.
In this sense, the Mediterranean diet meets all the requirements to become our best ally. The Mediterranean Diet Foundation points out that among the beneficial properties of this “menu” stands out the type of fat that characterizes it – hand in hand with olive oil, fish or nuts – the proportions in the main nutrients stored in its recipes -cereals and vegetables as the basis of dishes and meats or similar as “garnish” – and the richness in micronutrients that it contains, the fruit of the use of seasonal vegetables, aromatic herbs and seasonings.
Focusing on one of the star foods, olive oil, numerous studies have verified that liquid gold decreases cardiovascular risk, helps control other disorders that increase dangers such as diabetes or obesity and contributes to lipoproteins being more resistant to oxidation (the oxidative process is a determinant for the development of coronary and vascular diseases, produces inflammation and arteriosclerosis). In addition, its main component, oleic acid, also helps to reduce what is known as “bad” cholesterol (LDL cholesterol), without reducing “good” (HDL) levels.
INNOLIVA therefore invites you to count on olive oil, preferably in its extra virgin variety (EVOO), as an essential part of the daily diet, making our diet the best natural weapon against this type of disease.
The company, which has its head office in Pamplona (Spain), owns more than 5,000 hectares of irrigated olive groves, located in Spain and Portugal, where the Mediterranean climate gives the olive tree the ideal environment for the development and maturation of the fruit; and it favors the obtaining of Extra Virgin Olive Oils with excellent sensory qualities.
With its production system, they guarantee the integral traceability of the entire process: from the olive tree to the final customer.
They make their Extra Virgin Olive Oil cold in the shortest time possible from the entrance of the olive in the oil mill. And they take care of the oil already produced to maintain their excellent sensory and healthy qualities as long as possible.
