The world production of olive oil will grow by 8.2% in the next campaign

It will stay at the doors of 3,000,000 tons

The Department of Olive Studies of the Center of Excellence of Olive Oil of GEA has indicated that the world production of olive oil will reach 2,937,631 tons in the 2017/18 season in relation to the previous one, which indicates an 8.2 % more compared to the previous one. INNOLIVA, with its 10 million olive trees distributed between Spain and Portugal, has a production capacity of over 8 million liters of extra virgin olive oil.

According to the data of this study, directed by Rafael Cárdenas, 11.5 million hectares of olive groves around the world will reach an olive production that will reach around 20.3 million tons for the next season.

This increase will be present in six of the seven countries with the highest production (Spain, Greece, Italy, Tunisia, Turkey and Portugal) which will obtain 85.27% of the world production, and according to the report made by GEA, Spain will achieve a increase in its production of 1.3% and reach the figure of 1,298,700 tons in relation to the previous season, followed by Greece which will remain the second largest producer.

Italy is expected to produce 18.8% more with a reach of 288,600 tons; Tunisia with 202,900 tons, will generate an increase that will reach 202%; Turkey with a 200,400 tons, rising to 13.2%; followed by Portugal, with a production of 112,800 tons (+ 20%); and finally in seventh place Morocco, with 112,800 tons of olive oil which will result in 2.5% less than in the previous campaign.

Therefore, the data are again positive for Spain, which will remain the largest producer followed by Portugal, which obtains this position thanks to the increase in its production and new plantings.
